EL ERZAL Hotel

The Erzal resort is an almost abandoned site that was used as a small low grade hotel, pool and restaurant, with some success. The project called for an overall up haul of the site including developing a new site use, a new set of services, a new branding scheme, and a complete service design proposal.

The main challenge in the project was developing a new identity that can be adapted within the existing site, and to bring the scattered parts of the site together. The existing site was composed of several block that are randomly distributed with no clear purpose, strategy, orientation, or circulation solutions.

Our proposal for the project was to envision the whole site as a traditional Lebanese village, recreated in a modernized and minimalist language. The new program called for creating a boutique hotel offering suites, chalets, pool, restaurants, café, reception areas, wedding venues, outdoor area and children activities. The project also included several workshops and artisanal shops that are to be used to connect the project to its local community and offer local residents a window to sell their products and crafts, while maximizing the eco-tourism qualities of the site.

The architectural concept was to introduce a series of intersecting walls in both directions that open and close to varied privacy requirements, separating hotel areas from venue and pool visitors, and allowing a private access across the location for the hotel users. The walls were built in exposed concrete, local stone, and local wood to resonate with the natural setting of the site.
